2026 impact report

Delivering an air conditioner by cargo bike cuts emissions by 50x.

ClimLoc delivers every portable AC unit in central Paris by electric cargo bike. Here's what that really means, in CO2 avoided versus a diesel van — with the numbers, the methodology and the sources.

Cargo bike vs van

The match-up: 5 g vs 250 g of CO2 per kilometre.

Criterion ClimLoc cargo bike Diesel van
CO2e emissions ~5 g/km ~250 g/km
Average Paris trip 10 km round trip 10 km round trip
CO2 per delivery ~50 g ~2,500 g
Local pollutants (NOx, PM) None Significant
Noise in the city Silent Combustion engine
Parking in central Paris Easy, no congestion Hard, paid

Result: 2.45 kg of CO2 saved per delivery. Across a whole rental season, that's roughly the equivalent of 25 km of petrol-car driving avoided on logistics alone.

Methodology

How we calculate.

Our numbers come from emission factors published by ADEME (Base Empreinte / Base Carbone) and from field data shared by Paris cyclo-logistics operators (Olvo, Les Coursiers Verts, Urby).

  • 01

Diesel van: 250 g CO2e/km in real urban driving, freight included (ADEME).

  • 02

Electric cargo bike: 5 g CO2e/km (amortised manufacturing + French electricity mix).

  • 03

Average trip: 10 km round trip between our 12th arrondissement hub and the customer.

  • 04

Scope: Direct delivery emissions only (not the AC unit's manufacturing, covered by our refurbishment programme).

Beyond delivery

Bike delivery is one piece of the puzzle. The model matters too.

01

Refurbishment

Every ClimLoc unit is refurbished and re-rented for several seasons: we avoid manufacturing a new appliance (~150 kg CO2e saved per unit).

02

Shared use

A single AC unit serves 5 to 10 households per season. Cooling becomes a shared service rather than an underused appliance sitting in a basement 11 months a year.

03

Sensible use

Short-term rental encourages people to cool down only during real heat peaks — not by default, all season long.

Frequently asked

The questions we get most often.

How much CO2 does a cargo-bike delivery save?

On an average 10 km round trip in Paris, a ClimLoc cargo-bike delivery saves about 2.45 kg of CO2 compared to a diesel van (250 g vs 5 g of CO2e per km, source: ADEME).

Why deliver an air conditioner by bike rather than by van?

In central Paris, cargo bikes are faster during peak hours, don't contribute to traffic or air pollution, and emit 50x less CO2 per km than an equivalent diesel van.

Can portable air conditioning be part of a sustainable lifestyle?

Yes — if it's used responsibly: short-term rental, shared refurbished units, low-carbon logistics. That's the ClimLoc model.

Do you also deliver to the inner suburbs?

Yes, on request. Long trips (>15 km) are handled either by cargo bike or, occasionally, by a shared electric van.
